REMEMBER to buy a poppy today for Remembrance Day.
Margaret River Returned and Services League sub branch member John Nolan was selling the flowers last week.
He was in the medical corps of the services from 1963 to 1983 and went to Vietnam in 1967 and 1968, as well as from March to December in 1972.
He said it is important to remember November 11 and what was supposed to be “the war to end all wars”.
For him it is a day to remember the sacrifices of servicemen and women of all sectors and nations.
While selling the poppies he met a few other ex-servicemen, including David Cattermole.
From Oxford, England, Mr Cattermole is a member of the British Legion.
He joined the Royal Air Force in 1942 and served for five and a half years.
“Mainly I like to remember some of my pals who didn’t come back,” he said.
As a child he thought everyone wore the poppies for his birthday, which also happens to be November 11.
He leaves Australia in a few days but hopes to attend a ceremony today while in Perth.
A service will be held at Memorial Park today with wreath laying and a brief address.
People are welcome to attend, and to gather at 10.45am.
