THE Margaret River Recreation Centre has been allocated $50,000 in funding to ensure its facilities are welcoming to people with disabilities, their carers and families.
South West MLC Barry House said the shire was one of seven in the South West to benefit from more than $300,000 in funding through the Count Me In Inclusion Grants.
The grants were initiated in January this year, and grant recipients will work closely with the Disability Services Commission on their projects.
The aim of these projects is to “bridge the gap” between what is readily accessible for people with a disability in terms of services, infrastructure, programs and equipment to make disabilities more inclusive in the community.
“Augusta-Margaret River Shire has been successful in their application to provide funding to boost the scope for support to people with a disability using their various recreational services,” Mr House said. “It is a credit to the dedication and hard work of the shire(s) that they were successful in attaining this competitive funding on behalf of their communities.” The centre will use the funding for such items as equipment and staff training.
