RECREATIONAL boating facilities in Augusta and Margaret River have received a total of $57,500 in State Government grants.

The Augusta-Margaret River Shire was allocated $25,000 for the Gnarabup boatramp finger jetty, $20,000 for the Gracetown boatramp finger jetty and $12,500 to extend the finger jetty at Flinders Bay.

Each grant will be matched by the shire council to make up total project amounts of $50,000, $40,000 and $25,000 respectively.

Shire construction and maintenance manager Steve Smith said designs would be prepared for the upgrades.

"Council will liaise with key stakeholders during the design process to ensure the projects are going to match users' needs," he said.

"We would hope the works would be completed by Christmas, however they are dependent on the availability of qualified, skilled contractors and weather conditions."

He said the allocations continued the shire's success rate with the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme.

"We're probably only second in the State in regards to how many grants this shire gets, and in the number of grants we have that are successful."

He anticipates the projects will soon go out for tender.

The projects are three of 17 in WA to share more than $573,000 allocated in the ninth round of the recreational boating scheme, which is directly funded from boat registration fees.

There were 25 applications in this funding round.

A $45,000 allocation has also been made in the shire budget to replace the Ellis Street Jetty wall, and $9400 to repair sections of retaining wall at the Colour Patch.

Meanwhile, the Gnarabup boatramp was closed on the weekend and Monday because some timber had come off the end, exposing about five bolts.

Augusta-Margaret River Shire staff said the problem could not be fixed until the tides and heavy swells had receded.
