Country-loving new principal

03 Feb, 2010 11:16 AM
ANDREW Host is Margaret River Senior High School’s new principal, fresh from one year at Manjimup Senior High School and three years before that at Central Midlands.

“I love country teaching,” he said, “(and) this school has a very good reputation.

“I’m very excited to be here, it’s a fantastic part of the world.”

Mr Host grew up in Pingelly and Perth, and has spent most of his teaching career in the country, starting as an English teacher and also working in student services.

He has moved here with his family, including his one-year-old son, and as a very keen fisherman with a new boat, he looks forward to being a part of the community.

Ultimately, he wants to see MRSHS as the number one choice of schools in the area.

With good staff and students – “the vast majority of kids are fantastic” – he hopes to stay in Margaret River for the long term, an enjoy the privilege that parents “entrust their most prized possessions to us every day”.
