THE outstanding work of local environmentalists was celebrated at the Cape to Cape Catchment Group’s award ceremony on Friday evening.
About 80 people gathered at Voyager Estate to acknowledge the achievements of dedicated individuals and organisations in addressing key issues, such as biodiversity and water quality in the local catchment.
The judging panels of Local Members of Parliament, shire councillors, Chamber of Commerce, Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association and South West Development Commission representatives had their work cut out for them with all nominees demonstrating commitment and a strong desire to care for the Capes region.
Judges spoke of the leadership and outstanding personal efforts shown by the winners to achieve better environmental outcomes for the community.
The final category winners were The Tube Nursery–Nursery/Garden Centre; Mike and Mary McCall–Small Landholder/Small Business; Riverfresh IGA–Business; The Friends of the Cape to Cape Track–Community Group; Nyindamurra Family School–Educational Institution; and Genny Broadhurst–Volunteer.
“It is the mark of a civilised society that people volunteer their time for the betterment of their community and environment,” Ms Broadhurst said.
“There are so many people here tonight and behind me who consistently contribute.”
The Cape to Cape Catchments Group thank everyone involved, particularly all the nominees, the judges, and Voyager Estate.
