Keelty to present bushfire report in Margaret River

22 Feb, 2012 09:49 AM
BUSHFIRE report author Mick Keelty is expected to attend a shire bushfire recovery community meeting in Margaret River tomorrow, Thursday, only hours after his report is tabled in State Parliament.

The community meeting will be held at the Cultural Centre from 7.15pm.

Mr Keelty, who briefed Cabinet on Monday last week on his findings on the November controlled burn which escaped and destroyed 34 homes and nine holiday chalets, is expected to attend the tabling of his report in Parliament earlier tomorrow, then head to Margaret River.

Augusta-Margaret River Shire president, Ray Colyer, encouraged fire-affected residents to attend the meeting to get a “first-hand account” of the report findings.

“There has been a lot of curiosity about the content of the report since before it was commissioned,” Cr Colyer said. “People still have a lot of questions and I believe Mr Keelty may be able to give them some answers.”

Mr Colyer congratulated Mr Keelty on completion of his report.

“By all accounts he has been very ... thorough in compiling this report,” he said. “I look forward to reading it.”
