Leeuwin's music of the night

15 Feb, 2012 10:47 AM
AUSTRALIAN songstress Marina Prior and tenor David Hobson enchanted the crowd at Leeuwin Estate on the weekend along with the WA Symphony Orchestra.

In warm, still conditions on Saturday, the orchestra opened the concert with a Tchaikovsky number, and Marina and David launched into a West Side Story duet before praising the setting as the “most wonderful natural amphitheatre in the world!”

Marina’s solo of Somewhere Over the Rainbow included a “right on cue” appearance by a bird masquerading as a bluebird in the shell, and kookaburras chimed in just after she admitted they had accompanied her during rehearsal.

She also battled bugs despite wearing ‘Aeroguard perfume’.

The duo dedicated the song The Prayer to the firefighters who battled the Margaret River bushfires, and many gave them a standing ovation at the end of the show, before enjoying the post-concert entertainment by James Morrison with a Motown set.
