No Coal slogan put to music

02 Mar, 2011 12:16 PM
THE slogan "Margeret River, too beautiful to undermine and spoil with oil" could become the basis for a protest piece of music.

The NO OIL for SW BEACHES group video recorded about 350 people at Saturday’s No Coal No Oil protest rally at Reuther Park, Margaret River, chanting the slogan.

Rally organiser Rob Alder said the video clip was on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF NTFWe941c and he was talking to a record producer about "turning it into a piece of music".

"It (slogan) will get wings, that’s for sure."

Mr Adler said the rally turnout was "fantastic" on a hot day and with only seven days notice.

"We’ve now learned that apart from oil and coal, there’s coal seam gas drilling as an additional threat to our water and food security, so it’s vital we get our message out there."

He said coal seam gas exploration leases had been granted at Vasse, Busselton and Bunbury.

The NO OIL group will hold a fundraiser, including an online auction, on Friday, March 18 at a venue yet to be decided.

A similar fundraiser was held last October.
