Police: chaos after carnival

POLICE dealt with a number of troublemakers during and after a recent carnival in Margaret River.

“It was one of the worst nights I’ve worked in Margaret River in terms of antisocial behaviour,” senior constable Ross Bartley said.

After the carnival, he said young, mostly local, people were drinking on the street, causing damage, showing hostility to other groups and picking fights.

Police issued a number of infringements.

In other police matters, a Witchcliffe man and a Margaret River man were charged with possession of a smoking implement, while another Margaret River man was found to be in breach of bail conditions last Wednesday.

On Thursday, a temporary Prevelly residentwas charged with possession of cannabis and amphetamine.

Another temporary resident was arrested on cannabis-related charges.

A Margaret River man was charged with breaching a restraining order, and another with breaching a police order and obstructing police orders.

On Friday, a Margaret River person was charged with disorderly conduct, and a juvenile with stealing a vehicle.

On Saturday, a Bunbury man was charged with breach of bail and driving without a licence.

Later, a Margaret River man was charged with disorderly conduct.

A juvenile was charged with stealing a vehicle and driving without a licence.

A local was charged with 11 counts of breaching a restraining order.

Acting on information, police charged a person with trespass and stealing.

On Sunday, another local was charged with trespass.

There were also two charges of driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding .08 per cent.

Police have carried out forensic testing on a vehicle that was stolen from a property last week.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to come forward.
