TWENTY-two cyclists will take a well-earned pit stop in Margaret River and Augusta on Tuesday, March 9 during a ride to fundraise for cancer support.
The riders are cycling from Perth in a 900km journey in the third annual Red Sky Ride.
They will indulge their sweet tooth at the Margaret River Chocolate Factory before pedalling on to Augusta, where they will fuel up with a sausage sizzle at the river foreshore.
The cyclists are keen to meet community members as they aim to raise $400,000 for SolarisCare Foundation, an organisation changing the nature of care for people with cancer, their families and carers.
Red Sky Ride co-founder Deb Macksy said the cyclists would depart Forrest Place in Perth on Sunday, March 7 and pedal through Harvey, Dunsborough, Augusta, Bridgetown, Wagin and York before arriving back in Perth on March 14.
“The riders are senior managers, business owners or professionals – all motivated by their own personal connection to cancer,” she said.
“They have made a major commitment to the ride, giving up their weekend mornings as well as three evenings a week to cover more than 6000km in training over the past six months.
“They are ordinary people achieving something extraordinary.”
Each year, the ride is dedicated to the memory of a cancer patient.
The 2010 event will honour the life of neonatologist Sarah Jane Mitchell, who died in Perth from breast cancer in May 2008.
