EIGHT Margaret River bouncers are awaiting the results of spot drug tests, taken by police over the weekend.
The Bunbury-based South West police alcohol and drug unit carried out the sweep on crowd controllers and security personnel in working in Margaret River, Busselton and Dunsborough on Saturday evening.
In total 15 urine samples were collected and will be tested for the presence of illegal drugs.
Bunbury police sergeant Frank Bancilhon said such raids could be routinely carried out under the Security Related Activities Act.
“It was the first time we’ve done one for a while, but spot checks can be done at any time,” he said.
“Anyone who holds a crowd control licence or a security licence can be tested.”
A failed drug test will result in the offender’s licence to work in the security industry being revoked, although there is provision for a right of appeal period, Sgt Bancilhon said.
The results of the tests are expected to take up to two weeks.
