NEW Tourism Council WA chief executive Evan Hall has welcomed a $15 million boost for event tourism in the state budget.
The budget contains $5 million for major events and $10 million for regional events and festivals.
Mr Hall said: "(The) announcement of $15 million in new funding for events will provide a major boost to tourism which has been struggling in the two speed economy.
"Event and festivals are critical to getting tourists into the state and out into the regions. Nothing gets bums on seats like a good event."
Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association CEO Simon Ambrose echoed similar sentiments.
"The AMRTA welcomes the support that the State Government is giving for events in regional areas.
"We feel that events are key to the promotion of regional tourism areas and look forward to working with Tourism WA and Eventscorp to develop events in the Margaret River Wine Region that showcase all the amazing experiences on offer here."
The Australian Hotels Association (WA) has congratulated the State Government on the funding boost for tourism and events.
Treasurer Christian Porter said: "To expand WA’s events calendar, an additional $60 million - including $40 million from Royalties for Regions - is allocated to Tourism WA in the coming four years.
"When combined with existing events funding, this means the Government will spend an unprecedented $30 million annually for the next four years to secure and manage existing and new events in both the metropolitan and regional areas of WA."
