Soccer season about to kick off

01 Feb, 2012 05:41 PM
WITH temperatures hitting 40C it is hard to imagine winter sports are just around the corner, but that is where soccer is at Margaret River.

The local soccer club committees have been working towards an early start to registration, team selections and training.

Summer social soccer is drawing to a close and the senior men and women have already commenced training for the 18th annual Margaret River Soccer Carnival scheduled for February 25 and 26.

With strong junior numbers expected again this season parents and players are urged to get in early soccer musters. There will be three muster dates, February 17, 21 and 22, with musters being held at the clubrooms on the Western Oval after school 3.30-5.30pm.

This year the soccer club welcomes Paul Brown back into a senior coach’s role as we try to rebuild our senior arm.

Paul’s vision is to blend the experience of senior leaders the likes of Jay Allington, Gregor Small and others, with a host of Youth League and junior players from last season.

We anticipate an exciting year ahead as some of our finest juniors are “blooded” into the senior fold.

Both the men’s and women’s squads are looking for more players as it would be ideal to have two strong squads represented in our carnival and players really training for their position in a competitive, enjoyable environment.

Pre-season training has commenced for both men and women, Thursdays 6.15pm at Nippers Oval.

For information on training times and more, call Clive Slater 9757 2218, Paul Brown 0417 967 591 or Neil Mattinson 0418 931 468.
