Clean sweep for thrilled juniors

10 Mar, 2010 10:50 AM
A GROUP of 48 enthusiastic Busselton-Margaret River Junior Cricket Association players, and a number of supporting parents travelled north over the recent long weekend for the annual Rockingham Carnival.

Despite the heat, all the boys enjoyed the opportunity to represent their Association, get to know other players from the district, and play against some of the top young cricketers in the South West.

Players had been training together throughout February, and their hard work paid off with all teams having a successful weekend.

Three sides won two of their three games, and the Under 12A team all three, to take out their division.

All the 12A players stepped up during the carnival, and after convincing wins on the first two days, they overcame local rival Bunbury in the final game with some fine batting and bowling.

After some excellent performances in Division 1 of the Under 14s, 14A player Zac Davies was awarded Player of the Carnival.

Congratulations to those players especially, and to all those who took part.

The boys can look forward to bringing what they learnt back to their club cricket, and to many years of playing together and against each other.

It was also a very rewarding weekend for all the adults involved, and thanks go to coaches Graeme Watson (14A), Todd Giles (14B), Craig Gibson (12A) and Craig Bell (12B), and to all those who helped organise the weekend.

Thanks also to the Scott Family of Nannup for their donation of fruit, to our shirt sponsors Total Horticulture, Bridgestone Tyres and Abbey Tiling, and to all others who contributed.
