Club Race is lucky 13

03 Feb, 2010 11:51 AM
AUGUSTA Yacht Club sailed on Sunday the 31st January with the running of the Augusta Hardware Club Race number 13.

The weather was fine and clear the wind was blustery and once again the water level low, all of which made sailing conditions very testing.

The event was held over the short triangular course and consisted of four, one lap races, the last three races starting five minutes after the last boat from the previous race crossed the line. This format seemed to suit some skippers and crews who had trouble last week counting the laps, as this week they only needed to count to one and then do this four times.

Everyone managed this without error.

The winner was to be decided on total points earned from each race.

Only four boats contested the event.

Seabird, F Troop, Anitra and Big Red Dwarf and were evenly matched, good to see ratu kidul back on the water although she is still undergoing trials, hang in there Greg.

The races were not without some drama, one boat thought they needed “body overboard” training so a crew member got very wet, her skipper quickly shouted “throw her a rope’ and a passing boat threw out a lifejacket so she could stay afloat until her boat picked her up.

The day finished with a few drinks and the usual excuses and lies.

By the way, someone once said that ropes used to rescue crew members in the water should always be tied to the boat before throwing them out, someone on Seabird wasn’t listening when they grabbed up a coiled rope and threw the whole lot in.
