Junior Country week cricket Under 16 C grade
Day 1 The day began on a good note when captain Haig Colombera won the toss and elected to bowl.
BMR got off to a great start with Haig taking out middle and leg stump to remove Seb Kranje for a duck.
Mitch Walsh and Jordy Pember steadied the ship with a 59 run partnership and Mount Barker were looking good after 23 overs.
After this point wickets fell at regular intervals with Haig Colombera, Jack MacKay and Kayde Baker all snaring two wickets each.
Solid contributions from Drew Watson and Sam Parrot saw Mount Barker bowled out for 148 from 40 overs.
BMR went in to bat but three early wickets saw them in a bit of strife at 3 for 34 after 7 overs.
A good partnership from Sam Parrot and Sam Busetti saw them reach a respectable score at the tea break, quick wickets fell for BMR but an outstanding 52 run partnership from Kayde Baker and Zac Davies saw them reach 148 before the team was eventually bowled out for 196 in the 41st over, giving BMR a 48 run victory.
Day 2 A very hot day and great facilities greeted BMR at Lilac Hill.
Unfortunately we lost the toss and were sent in to bat.
BMR made a solid start being 2 for 77 at first drinks.
Some early wickets after drinks cost BMR dearly but two great 50 run partnerships from Haig Colombera brought him closer to his first 100.
Liam Cremen and Haig piled on the runs as Liam made a quick fire 37 from 20 balls which skyrocketed the score past 200.
Another excellent batting display from Kayde Baker and Haig brought Haig’s first ever 100 off just 84 balls.
Kayde carried on to push the score to 264 at the end of 50 overs.
The chase didn’t start off well for Merredin as two quick wickets from Haig and Clayton Shehan set them back.
It didn’t get any better for Merredin as Drew Watson and Zac Davies ripped through the middle order.
The only resistance for Marredin was Callum Langley’s solid score of 37.
Clayton finished off the tail as Merredin were bowled out for 97 off 35 overs.
Day 3 Another stinking hot day in Perth made us more determined to end the game early.
Broome won the toss and batted first on a bowler friendly pitch.
BMR started well again with some great bowling from Jack MacKay picking up 3 for 10 off 5 overs.
Some more excellent bowling from Zac Davies and Haig Colobera left Broome stunned and all out for 54 off just 28 overs.
BMR made short work of the run chase with good contributions from Justin Gower, Sam Busetti and Sam Parrot and eventually declared at 7 for 78 off 15 overs.
Day 4 A much cooler day at Brittania reserve, Leederville was our first game on an artificial pitch and was damp from overnight sprinklers.
Green Range Ongerup won the toss and elected to bat.
They made a good start with Kelby Smith making 33 and Clayton Wood 13 runs. However some great bowling in the middle overs pegged GRO back to 5 for 85 at lunch. GRO accelerated after lunch going at around 5 runs an over.
Continuous dropped catches and misfields cost BMR some 40 to 50 runs in the last 10 overs before GRO finished on 8 for 160.
BMR made an average start losing Sam Busetti Drew Watson and Haig Colombera early but Justin Gower (24), Sam Parrot (28) and Zac Davies (17) calmed down the situation taking us to lunch at 4 for 84, meaning we needed about 5 runs an over.
Enter Liam Cremen who didn’t falter and smashed two 6s and six 4s combining with Kayde Baker to put on a quick 65 runs to save the game.
We ended with 182 from 50 overs beating GRO, the only other undefeated side, by 22 runs.
Day 5 BMR headed to Hamer Park on the last day of Country Week hoping to repeat yesterday’s performance and win all five games.
Haig had a very unlucky week at the toss and that continued with Narrogin winning the toss and bowling first.
Sam Busetti and Justin Gower had a bit of a shaky start with the ball swinging a bit but as they both settled down runs came easily and at drinks BMR were 0 for 111.
Shortly after drinks Sam was out for 59 and Justin was run out for 55.
Drew and Haig knuckled down to keep the runs ticking over and notched up great half centuries.
To Narrogin’s credit they didn’t give up and bowled particularly well from the 30 to 40 over mark with Travis Shanks collecting his first 5 wicket haul this week.
Henry Shawcross finished off the innings with a quick 24 off 18 balls bringing the BMR total to 296 after 50 overs.
Narrogin started well with Sharman Menasse making 22 off 77 balls doing a great job occupying the crease.
Some more good line and length bowling from Jack, Haig, Clayton and Sam Parrot was too good for Narrogin.
A good couple of overs at the end from Drew finished off the tail and Narrogin were all out for 104.
