WE had a perfect day for golf last Wednesday which was reflected in the good scores that some of our clever golfers were able to attain.
None better than Gail Marshall who came in with 44 pts in this stableford event.
Gail was followed by Judy Anderson with 41pts on countback from Lyan Shephard, Di Ellis and Jill Perkins.
Shirley Swarbrick took home the lucky fifth place trophy with her 39 pts.
Novelties were won by G Marshall, T Howells (2) and Jill Perkins.
The gross trophy went to Gail.
Special thanks to Jill Perkins for sponsoring the day and also providing a beautiful afternoon tea, with all proceeds from the raffle and the donations for afternoon tea going to the worthy cause of Breast Cancer research.
The ladies got into the spirit of the event dressing in either pink or purple to show their support.
Thanks again Jill for the effort you put into this event.
The Augusta girls have travelled far and wide this year in the pursuit of golf (or as we like to tell our men, supporting the other clubs).
We have been as far north as Mingenew, as far east as Kojonup, and a few clubs in between like Boyup Brook, Donnybrook, Harvey, Collie, Bridgetown Dunsborough , Sanctuary, Bunbury, Capel, Busselton and Manjimup and of course the Perth courses that we played at Country Week.
This weekend some of our stalwarts are playing closer to home in the Margaret River Classic and we wish those competing good luck.
But for most of us our season of traveling ended last weekend when 11 of us hit the road to Walpole to compete in the South West Championships.
For anyone that thinks Augusta may be a little hilly you haven’t played at Walpole.
Fantastic course (sandgreens of course) but you need to almost be a mountain goat for some of the fairways, but nevertheless we enjoyed every minute of it, just maybe not every hit.
Two of our ladies handled it better than most with Keryn Thorpe coming third in the bronze division and Lyan Shephard coming home fourth in the 36 hole comp.
Lyan also was the runner-up over both divisions in the nett and Keryn won the day trophy for Sunday.
Congratulations to both of you and to the rest of us a pat on the back for finishing.
This weekend will see our 27th Masters being held at Augusta, so to everybody vying for the honour of winning the green jacket and jumper, keep them on the fairway – they tell me it helps.
