OUR last game of the season was greeted by a cloudy sky and a muddy pitch.
With only one sub for the first half and four subs on the Busselton bench we were undecided whether we could pull off a win.
With a sideline full of spectators our volunteer referee started off the game.
Our centre midfielder Jenni Boyle was back on the pitch after a much deserved holiday and the team was thankful to be able to rely on her great skills and hard work.
Hannah Jackson was playing right wing and was off to a great start when she scored her first goal off a header from Jaye Lanzini.
Some great defending from Leela Dilkes Hoffman and Ruby Tucker kept Busselton at bay for a while but their strikers were hungry for a goal and managed to even the score.
Ellen Jackson in left midfield was eager to retrieve a goal and came within centimetres but it was not meant to be.
Jasmine Meagher had a great game knocking balls over the bar and diving in the mud to stop the strong Busselton team from scoring.
Emelia Hewton was on fire with continuous heading and tackling.
A handball in the box led to Jenni scoring a goal from a penalty, and at half time we were up 2-1.
Kerry Sheffield was making some great tackles in the midfield, along with Jordan Bernhardt who stepped into right defence after the second half.
Grace Allington received some great through balls and made a number of good runs up the wing.
Busselton levelled the score again after a quick run through our defence, and not to be outdone Hannah took her goal count up to two.
Jaye Lanzini moved to the centre forward eager to get her first goal for the season.
Not waiting long she converted a brilliant cross from Hannah for Margaret River to take the lead again.
Tash Rigby played another great game and made some good decisions along with Lisa Baddock to help us dominate the second half.
A quick run past the keeper after the ball was fed up through the defence allowed Jaye to score her second goal for the day.
Margaret River was elated.
In a team effort we kept Busselton in their half until the end of the game and were stoked with the 5-2 win.
The team, coaches and spectators were thrilled with a win and it was the best way to end our season.
Many thanks to our new sponsors Chemmart, our players of the match were Jasmine Meagher, Jaye Lanzini and Hannah Jackson.
The team would like to thank Colin and Bruno for volunteering their time to coach us this year and for all the parents and friends that helped out with setting up for the game, driving players and refereeing.
Well done everyone.
