MARGARET River 2 met the Dunsborough 2 team at Cowaramup on a very windy Saturday morning.
Margaret River’s captain for the day, Keelan Radice, won the toss and elected to bowl.
The local team’s bowling effort proved again to be quite effective and accurate with very few sundries being bowled.
Stand out performers with the ball included Carlos Mifsud, Jacob Oakes, Oscar Herbst and Jordan Brader who all managed to get their overs away for three runs or less.
Jacob picked up another couple of wickets through combining with Carlos who took a great catch off his bowling and affected a great run out with an accurate throw.
Shane Herbst also featured in the classic catches, taking a nice one off the bowling of Ryan Tate.
Oscar, Carlos, Keelan Radice and Hannah Biddulph were all very sharp in the field and placed a great deal of pressure on the batsmen running between wickets.
Dunsborough ended up with a very handy total of 104 runs, not a bad effort against a tight bowling attack.
Margaret River’s innings with the bat was off to a pretty good start against some fierce bowling.
Shane and Ryan showing solid form with the bat before Shane fell to a good catch.
Keelan joined Ryan and both boys played very watchful innings, keeping out the good balls and scoring off the bad ones before they were required to retire.
Carlos and Tom McInerney were in next and continued to score easily before Tom pulled the ball only to be caught at mid wicket.
Jacob joined Carlos at the crease and both began to hit runs at will.
These two were also required to retire and Margaret River were requiring another 54 runs for victory.
Youngsters in Sachi Radice and Nathan Doig strode to the crease and batted quite nicely to push the score along before Sachi fell to a sharp catch at mid wicket.
Nathan was joined by Henry Ryan, both boys working hard to chase the runs down.
Henry needed to retire after belting a nice boundary.
Oscar joined Nathan at the crease and also batted well before Nathan lost his wicket to one of the Dunsborough quicks.
Hannah and Jordan also fell victim to the same bowler.
Keelan, Ryan, Jacob and Carlso were all able to bat again and each of the boys hit some great boundaries.
Carlos had a memorable last over of the day when he belted three boundaries from the one over.
Although Margaret River held on well, they unfortunately fell short by 20 runs.
Even though the team lost, all players showed some solid form with either bat or ball which should ensure a successful season to come.
