SUNDAY was not only Valentines Day but the third and final heat of The Ladies at the Helm series.
Only three ladies wanted to be a skipper for a day, Leanne on Seabird, Sue on Big Red Dwarf and Peta on Anitra.
The race started at 1.30pm in beautiful sunny weather, light winds and plenty of water for a change.
Three laps of a short course, it all looked quite simple but nerves got the better of a couple of the ladies, making for a couple of heart stopping moments at the start and later in the race.
One boat ended up needing some cosmetic surgery and a bit of new makeup but there were no injuries.
The second race for the day was the MJR Electrical Club Race number 14, with seven boats on the water and the wind a little stronger.
A little confusion at the start saw a couple of boats cross the line early but after a penalty turn the race was on.
This three lap race was configured so that the middle lap was sailed in the opposite direction to the other two.
This caused some excitement when two boats rounded the same mark going in different directions, with ones sail touching the marker forcing a penalty turn.
This race format was very exciting with the introduction of a thinking process into the sailing and all competitors enjoyed it.
