FOUR Margaret River underwater hockey players will represent their state and their country at the 2012 Southern Hemisphere Underwater Hockey Championships being held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, next week.
Hayden Wenman, Tate Strudwick, Sunny Pasco and Meg Pardoe have been afforded the chance to represent their country in their chosen sport of underwater hockey through the generosity of the Margaret River community.
Raffles, sausage sizzles, Farmers Markets’ breakfast service and generous donations from people, businesses and organisations in the Margaret River community have helped fund the trip east for the four.
Down South Camping & Outdoors was one of the businesses that helped raise funds.
Roz Cummings from Down South Camping & Outdoors said the business sourced two sets of freediving fins from their suppliers, Pelagic, and a spear gun donated by freediving and spearfishing manufacturer and exporter Rob Allen.
The sale of the items, with all proceeds going to help fund the championships trip, raised more than $600, Mrs Cummings said.
Hayden is selected in the Australian Men’s U19 team, and Meg, Sunny and Tate are selected in the Australian Ladies U19 team, with Tate as team captain.
