ON Tuesday August 4, a busload of Year 10, 11 and 12 students from Margaret River High School, travelled to Busselton to play MacKillop for the first round of the Siren’s Cup Girls Football competition.
A light afternoon shower cleared as the girls took to the field and prepared for what was for most, their first interschool football competition ever.
The girls played extremely well, with the MacKillop team unable to catch up from the word ’go.’ Ellie Williams proved a strong a fit rover and with Olivia Payne and Kirra Holley alongside her in the centre field they were a hard line to cross.
But it was the skill, strength and determination of Ingrid Coylier and Tash Rigby that shone.
The girls were unstoppable, marking and kicking with accuracy and pulling every trick out of the book to evade their oncoming opposition.
Although the defence although saw less of the ball, they were also impenetrable, with MacKillop only able to score one goal and three behinds in the 40 minute game.
At the other end, the Margaret River side were able to lock away 13 goals and nine behinds to secure an 87 to 9 point victory.
The girls look forward to another game against Busselton Senior High School on Tuesday August 18th at the Margaret River Nipper’s oval.
To see some excellent football action and to support them, come along at about 4pm.
