AUGUSTA-Margaret River hosted South Bunbury at Gloucester Park last Sunday.
South Bunbury had impressive wins in the Colts and Reserves and in a hard fought and fairly even league won by 16 points.
League
Bryan Francis opened with a goal, the first score on the board at the five-minute mark of the quarter.
Daniel Johns kicked their second goal and Ray Daniels received a lucky free kick and kicked South’s third goal.
Augusta-Margaret River were doing a lot of attacking but were not kicking goals because of a lack of teamwork deep in attack.
Close to quarter time John Purdue took a strong mark in a pack and goaled for the Hawks.
With the rain falling, Jay Bett kicked South’s fourth goal and at quarter time theyled by 17 points.
Early in the second quarter Ray Daniels and Bryan Francis goaled for Souths and at this stage both teams had equal share of the football but Souths had better team play close to their goals.
After some good team play Josh Morgan missed a shot at goals and Souths rushed the ball to their forward line, where Bryan Francis kicked his third goal for South.
In the late stages of the quarter Bryan Francis kicked his fourth goal for South and Grant Garstone kicked a 50m goal for the Hawks.
At halftime South Bunbury led by 31 points.
The third quarter was a very competitive quarter with the Hawks kicking two goals and Souths’ only score was one point.
Hawks’ goals were kicked by Mitch Gerrans and John Purdue and at the final change Souths led by 20 points.
In the last quarter Souths kicked three goals and the Hawks kicked four, but that was enough for South Bunbury to win the game by 16 points.
