Twice as nice: tennis

15 Apr, 2009 11:02 AM
THE Margaret River Tennis Club held the club mixed doubles championship and, with 40 entries for the event, there was some great competition and an afternoon and evening of tennis was enjoyed by all.

As always during social or competitions at the club, afternoon tea, with scones and cakes (home baked by members) was served and the MRTC members later enjoyed a well earned drink from the bar as the sun set and the floodlights were put on for the finals to be played.

The winners of the mixed doubles were Fiona Sharpe and Andrew Watson who won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a tight three set final over Colin and Jenny Clark.

Winners of the Margaret River Plate were Kevin Sun and Bec O’Connell over Lance and Trish Jackson 9-3 in the final.

As the summer season draws to a close at the club, the enthusiasm this year continues with tennis now being played three evenings a week and good turnouts for social play on Wednesday mornings and Saturday afternoons.

Anyone interested in joining the evening play (Monday Ladies, Tuesday Mixed and Mens Thursday evenings at 7pm) should contact the club on 9757 3398 or visit the website www.margaretrivertennisclub.org.a u

The Margaret River Tennis club continues to seek sponsorship for the proposed International Pro circuit that would be run in November and attract substantial interest to the town and surrounding areas over a nine day period.
