A 29-year-old man has died and a 22-year-old man is missing after the two surfers were caught in treacherous conditions at Redgate Beach, Margaret River yesterday.
The search for the man missing in water off Redgate resumed this morning, as the marine and air search commenced at first light with a helicopter, three Volunteer Marine Rescue vessels and two jet skis.
A number of State Emergency Services personnel were deployed on the beach also.
The man was surfing yesterday afternoon on a boogie board when it is understood he was caught in a rip.
Police were notified of the incident shortly before 1.30pm yesterday.
Rescuers managed to reach the 29-year-old surfer but they were unable to revive him. Police said a third man was able to reach safety, but his details are yet to be confirmed.
