MARGARET River welcomed two new businesses recently with Mediterranean-inspired restaurant Pentimento and local designer label Valentina Rose moving into the main street.
Pentimento opened on December 30, next door to Sails Too where The Spaghetti Bowl once was.
Ryan Earle, who runs the restaurant with Ronald De Ruijter, said they had redecorated the place with an aim to “lighten it up”.
With tapas, mains and dessert on the menu, and an impressive cocktail list featuring chilli mango margheritas and jugs of sangria, Pentimento is set to be a popular spot for after-work drinks and nibbles as well as sit-down meals.
“We started the cocktail menu up last night,” Ryan said on Saturday.
“I think people like a lot of choice,” he said.
There are also wines from small-producer local wineries and imported Spanish and Italian beers and wines.
Ryan said Pentimento catered for people ages 22-72, and even families with children could appreciate the open space and food with prices ranging from $6-60.
“Hang in here and just go for it,” manager Shae Dillon said.
Meanwhile, Valentina Rose opened next to the Margaret River Fudge Factory on January 8, offering clothing and accessories from local labels Valentina Rose and Nautical James.
The handmade items are designed by Valentina Gasperini, Jaime Bowers and Melissa D’Ath who run the shop.
“It’s a women’s business,” Valentina joked.
She said they strived to use only natural materials for the “boho chic meets nautical cool” ranges, and tried to keep the prices as low as possible.
Simple racks line the shop’s walls and white shelves boast colourful leather bags and wallets.
“I really like the minimalist look,” Valentina said of the shop’s design.
“I find some places are too crowded.”
Jaime said the entire stock was designed by the three ladies, with no mass-made items taking up space.
“It’s a fashion label, not a shop,” Jaime said.
Ranging in sizes XS-XL and some XXL, the clothes are made with only 15-20 items per batch.
