LOCAL surfers Jake Paterson and Brett Hardy have won themselves a last-minute spot in tomorrow’s Margaret River Pro.
The pair competed in the official Trials today at Surfers Point, where they went up against 30 competitors to win one of the four last places in the main event.
The first places were taken by Kiron Jabour of Hawaii and Caio Ibelli of Brazil.
Paterson followed with scores of 9.40 and 8.35 in the final heat, while Hardy took the last place.
Paterson, who is from Yallingup and has competed in the Pro before, said he was feeling good about the big competition tomorrow.
“I just feel very comfortable in Margaret River,” he said of the surf.
“I live just down the road.”
He said that last year, the Trials only included locals but now organisers have opened it up to everyone.
Trials were also held for the Women’s division today, with Perth’s Felicity Palmateer sweeping in to take the one available spot.
The Margaret River Pro will kick off at Surfers Point at about 7am tomorrow.
