AUGUSTA resident Natalie Bell continues to be concerned about litter washing up on Storm Bay Beach from the Augusta Boat Harbour works.

She recently contacted the Department of Transport to complain about the plastic wire she found on the beach.
"I am very worried that the cord will keep washing in for months and keep appearing on the beaches, constantly being buried by sand and weed," she said.
Heidi Taylor of Tangaroa Blue has offered to write a letter from the Australian Marine Debris Initiative to the department, supporting Ms Bell.
Department of Transport project manager Stephen Smith said: "Contractors inspect and remove the plastic wire from the rock before it leaves the quarry. Significant resources have been committed to the collection of any debris.
"The contractor has two staff working up to eight hours a week collecting the debris. DoT staff are also undertaking twice-weekly beach sweeps and monitoring nearby beaches for debris.
"It's anticipated the amount of debris will significantly reduce in mid-April following the completion of the lower level of the southern breakwater which is currently 90 per cent complete," he said.
"Debris monitoring and collection will continue until August to ensure all the material is found and removed."
