TWO Margaret River police vehicles will now have heart-starter machines, each provided by the Margaret River St John Ambulance Service.
This will help both emergency services when attending incidents, and save precious time when someone has a heart attack.
"It's a plus-plus for the community and emergency services," Sergeant Paul Daly said.
Community paramedic Dane Hendry said defibrillators had proved to be the most effective response to cardiac arrest.
"The sooner [you get help] the better the outcome," he said.
The ambulance service is pushing for more such machines in the community, especially where they might be most needed.
The machines cost $2500 each, and so the police force is grateful to the ambulance service for providing them, Sgt Daly said.
Police officers are all trained in using them, and also have trauma kits in their vehicles provided by the Lions Club.
Any local businesses or groups interested in the program are invited to contact the Margaret River St John Ambulance Service on 9757 3333.
