THE Augusta Margaret River Hawks defeated the Harvey Brunswick Leschenault Lions in the year 9 junior competition at Leschenault on Saturday.
Playing under blue skies for the first time in many weeks the Hawks' recent good form enthused the team despite the comprehensive loss to the Lions earlier in the season.
The teams were trading goals in the first quarter of a fast-paced, high-standard game.
The Hawks midfield, led by Kane La Fontaine and Matt Young, were prominent throughout, with strong skills and hard running giving the forwards plenty of opportunities to score.
The second quarter was a tough contest, with the Lions hitting back and outscoring the Hawks to lead by three points at half time.
The second half saw the Hawks play their most fluent and penetrating football of the season, kicking six goals to three in the second quarter.
The Hawks defence was outstanding with Jake Reynolds and Matt Stirling stepping to support the midfield.
The last quarter was all Hawks once more kicking another six goals to secure an excellent win.
Cohen McCashney was excellent through half back and the centre and Jasper Chellappah provided some good delivery to the forward line off a wing.
Hawks 17.12 (114) defeated. Lions 11.7 (73).
