THREE options have been identified to provide a safer exit for Yallingup residents during a bushfire.
Transport minister and Vasse MLA Troy Buswell announced on Wednesday that the government, partnered with Main Roads’ working group had found options for second access roads to Gracetown, Prevelly and Yallingup.
The working group’s report identified three secondary road access options for Yallingup but showed the general consensus was none were viable due to engineering difficulties, steep terrain and environmental impacts.
The report also recommended that the government should consider providing a safer refuge for people inside the town.
Two options have also been identified for Gracetown and one option for Prevelly.
Mr Buswell said the government had recommended more consultation was needed before the options were carried out.
The minister said the investigation would be led by Main Roads involving further direct community input, and would make its recommendations to the Government by late 2014.
“I am keen for this process to determine, where possible, safe alternative access for South West communities at risk of fire,” he said.
