IN response to the letter 'Seasonal Cheer' (Augusta-Margaret River Mail, January 8) from Mr and Mrs Whately, I would like to congratulate them for their love and concern and in providing an opportunity for fellowship for the lonely, displaced and not so fortunate on Christmas Day.
However, in my experience, the Margaret River community is very much a generous, caring community. There are groups and organisations who go to great trouble to make sure the Christmas season is a blessing for everyone.
The Big Breaky (which operates every Thursday morning at the Soupie) caters for such needs and follows up on a day-to-day basis. Through these relationships with personal invitation, word of mouth and networking through the backpackers, we held a successful Christmas morning breakfast.
We would love to advertise but with limited resources we choose to feed hungry people. With so many visitors in town over the festive season it is inevitable some people slip through the net but with people like the Whately's and many others like them in our community, they are in good hands.
