THERE has been a lot of criticism of the development at the Main Break Surfers Point, and while some aspects could possibly be have designed and planned better, I would like to give a big thumbs up to the disability access and overall look of the area now.
I took my 97-year-old father to the point last week and it was a delight to find the access and paths actually worked for the disabled and frail aged. I could get my dad, who uses a mobility walker, up to the paths by guiding him to the flat area in the main access areas from where the paths were wide and level. He loved being able to walk and enjoy the view.
There are actually very few areas where frail or disabled people can enjoy walking on a level area in Margaret River and to also be able to see the sea and surf from such a vantage point is marvellous.
As a recreation and viewing area, it's quite lovely and blends together. The local limestone rockwork is softened by the green lawn, the jarrah bollards and decorative paving in the carpark add textural interest and the arty toilets and nautilus shell viewing area is stunning. It's time to enjoy this beautiful area.
I would like to point out one important need for the disabled and frail aged sector of the community that may have been overlooked: designated seating.
Please, can a couple of seats be built for these people as they are not able to sit on the rock walls or on the lawns? They need seating at the correct height and arm rests for weight-bearing to get up again.
Thank you.
