DOGS have apparently taken a liking to the new sculpture in Prevelly, Margaret River, with a very sweet display of affection noticed by people in the area.
Artist Russell Sheridan, creator of the sculpture in Riflebutt Park, said real dogs had been trying to interact with the man and dog figures, which face each other.
"Real dogs have regularly come and dropped their stick in front of the bloke and barked to get his attention, or raced up to the other dog and barked at it," he said.
"Animals and especially dogs can remind us that we are human."
He said children also seemed to enjoy the artwork, climbing over the sculptures enough to polish the material to a shining form.
Mr Sheridan created another sculpture at Rivermouth Beach of a woman sitting on the rocks and breastfeeding a baby whale.
"I have been told by another local who came and introduced herself to me that she cried when she saw 'Layla' on the beach, and was not the only one," he said.
