I WOULD like to say thank you to those responsible for the arrangement of the wonderful memorial held for my uncle Donald Mackay at the Organic Gardens in Margaret River.
I have seen the announcements section in the Augusta Margaret River Mail, which has a great, big and well-deserved thank you to those beautiful people who gave so much of their time, effort and energy to put on such a grand tribute.
Margaret, Carolyn and John especially for doing the hard yakka and their families as well: my most grateful thanks.
The Mackay family in Perth was very proud to hear that so many people spoke about their personal experiences with Don. Our thanks to those who captured the memorial on audio and photos of the event to show those unable to attend.
We would like to identify the lovely lady who gave a photo of Don on his bicycle to me at the memorial. Apparently her son was the one who took the photo a few years ago when practising photography and thought the family would appreciate it. We hope that we can identify that person, to get permission to copy the photo and use it for historical purposes in the future. It is possibly the only photo of Don on a bicycle that has ever surfaced and we are very grateful to have been given it to show the family.
If you would like to contact the Historical Society in Margaret River it would be much appreciated. Again, we are so grateful and humbled by the fact that our dear uncle was a very much loved, appreciated and valuable community member who also loved his community just as much. He will be very much missed by those who were lucky enough to have shared even a small part in his life.
