AUGUSTA is hosting one of the biggest events on their calendar this weekend, celebrating one of their greatest natural assets.
The Act-Belong-Commit Augusta River Festival will take over the foreshore for the weekend with plenty of land and water based activities, games and entertainment for the whole family.
Across the day on Saturday there will be SciTech interactive shows, bungee jumpers and a rock climbing wall among other attractions, and there will be also shows throughout the day for the kids.
But Sunday is day for the action, with a model boat race, the Blackwood Regatta and live music from the Acitones and Stillwater Giants among others.
All this and more, including live music and artistic displays will be capped off with a fireworks spectacular from 8pm.
Organiser Ruth Combley said the event is one of the best things for Augusta each year, and has been running for more than 15 years.
“It’s all about getting the community and tourists involved in our town,” Ms Combley said.
“And it’s very successful – stall holders and punters come back each year. It’s great for Augusta to stand out on its own.”
Augusta Primary School principal Myles Rees said the school has been involved for as long as he been there, and it was a great event for the students to get involved in.
“We get the kids involved prior to the festival – helping to make something or create something ahead of the festival,” he said.
Tickets are $2 on entry and the event is smoke free. For more information visit www.augustariverfestival.com.
