Laura Macaulay won a shot in the tournament in Tuesday's wildcard draw and today was pitted against world number one Carissa Moore and Alessa Quizon.
In sloppy 3 - 5 foot waves the local girl charged through her round three clash, but missed on claiming first place by half a point.
Five time world champion Steph Gilmore won her round two heat, while Courtney Conlogue won her first round match up against Coco Ho and Alana Blanchard.
Organisers will make the call whether day two is on or off at 6.45am on Thursday.
