HAWAIIAN surfer Carissa Moore has defeated Australia's Tyler Wright in the Margaret River Pro Women's Finals.
In four-to-six foot waves at Mainbreak, Margaret River on Sunday, the eager opponents took turns holding the lead, tangling back and forth in "a seesaw battle", according to event commentators.
Wright struck first, before Moore belted out a series of forehand turns for a 7.50 point score to overtake her.
Wright regained the lead halfway after netting an 8.00 with a two-turn combination, but Moore later recorded the highest score of the heat with an 8.23 secured by her powerful two-turn combination.
Moore went on to win, boasting her second consecutive Drug Aware Margaret River Pro victory.
Final score: Carissa Moore (HAW) 15.73 def. Tyler Wright (AUS) 14.10
