Melbourne has acted swiftly to replace sidelined former captain Jack Trengove on its senior list, by upgrading utility Neville Jetta from the rookie list.
Jetta was delisted by the Demons at the end of last season after 41 games over five seasons, but was redrafted by the club as a rookie. The 24-year-old has earned his promotion with two strong showings for the Casey Scorpions in the opening rounds of the VFL season.
Jetta has struggled to gain a consistent foothold at AFL level, playing fewer than 10 games in each of the past four seasons. He did, however, perform strongly in his last AFL outing, keeping Bulldog livewire Luke Dahlhaus goalless in the final round of 2013.
The announced on Tuesday that Trengove will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his navicular bone. The No. 2 draft pick of 2009 will have surgery.
