DONNYBROOK’S population more than doubled at the Easter weekend when crowds descended from far and wide to experience the annual Livelighter Donnybrook Apple Festival.
There was plenty to do and see at the popular event, but local produce was the focus of the weekend, from the fruit displays at the produce tent to stalls selling locally made goods.
The festival was officially opened by Shire President Steve Dilley on Saturday afternoon, followed by a blessing of the fruit.
Sunny weather kept festival goers warm while they enjoyed sideshow alley, a big range of market stalls and a very popular display of classic cars.
Entertainment included performances from the Donnybrook District High School Band, popular local singers Latehorse, Kate Hindle and upcoming band the Bad Apples, as well as the Sisters of Ishtar Bellydance Troupe.
Later on Saturday night there was a fireworks display and performance from Skeleton Jump.
The kids had plenty of entertainment as well, with Blackwoood Community Circus activities, pony rides, baby animals and ongoing shows at the kids stage.
On Sunday the street parade went through town, showing off local groups at their best.
Many former Apple Queens and Ambassadors could be seen wandering the festival following the reunion held on Saturday morning.
The festival was another big success for the organising committee and the town.
