IT’S all about purple power on Friday for Purple Bra Day, with businesses all over the shire encouraging staff to wear bras and raise funds for Breast Cancer Care WA. Pictured are Margaret River IGA staff Zette Busby, Dee Laming, Dave McKay, Ben Smith and Bec Downie with goodies to be raffled for the event. River Fresh IGA will be raffling eight hampers, with the draw at 3pm Friday. The hampers include groceries, fresh produce, cat and dog products, a Weber and a meat pack hamper.
Margaret River IGA’s support for Purple Bra Day will include a miniature horse outside the store wearing a purple bra, as well as a sausage sizzle and wood raffle.
Mitre 10 Margaret River, NewsXpress, and Home Hardware will hold raffles, as well as the Margaret River District Club which will raffle off 2kg of homemade rocky road in a huge wine glass.
Cafe 131 is baking purple cupcakes on the day as a fundraiser.
The Margaret River Recreation Centre fitness staff are wearing bras over their work gear, asking people to “pay up to take them off”.
Centre patrons are asked to dress in purple on Friday with a chance to win prizes.
For a donation, you can also have a bra measure and fit by Denise House of Intimo Lingerie.
Tea, coffee and cupcakes will be available on the day from 9-11.30am. About 80 collection tins are at businesses around town for donations.
Bec Downie of Margaret River IGA has organised Purple Bra Day events for the past three years, and hopes everyone will pitch in to help reduce breast cancer statistics.
The event raises money for the Breast Cancer Care WA organisation, which provides personalised emotional, practical and financial support and care for WA women and their families affected by breast cancer. Visit www.breastcancer. org.au for information.
