Margaret River Community Kindy prepares for closure

A SUB-committee has been formed to assist the current and future management committee with the 2014 closure of the Margaret River Community Kindergarten.

Controversially, the Augusta-Margaret River Shire Council decided not to renew the lease on Townview Terrace, which expires in late 2014.

The decision was a deep disappointment to the 2012 Margaret River Community Kindergarten Parent Management Committee, who said they could not afford to build or locate a suitable premise to lease in town.

“The Margaret River Community Kindergarten has provided the children of this community with a friendly and stimulating transition from the home to school since 1947,” Melanie Powell of the committee said.

Community kindergartens are community-based facilities offering an alternative to school on-site kindergartens.

The Margaret River Primary School is in negotiations with the Department of Education regarding the building of a new purpose-built kindy on school land.

This will be an on-site kindy and will be ready and operating for the 2015 school year.

The kindy committee thanks past and present families of children who have attended the kindy, as well as the parent volunteers, staff and community members and organisations who have helped to run it for the past 65 years. If you have an active interest in joining the sub-committee or if you have any stories, photographs, memorabilia or assistance to offer, contact Melanie Powell on 0400 736 266, or mel_bren@bigpond.com.
