MEMBERS and staff at Margaret River Golf Club spent much of the last week cleaning up debris and repairing minor damage from the recent wild weather, but there was some golfing action.
Robin Lea (16) won the Tuesday Vets stableford comp from Mike Marks (15) and Alan Dale (15). The Thursday Scroungers stableford comp winner was Rob Dewar (38) from Tim Watson (37) and Dave Noske (35). Best gross score was Rod Bedford with 26 points.
A battalion of Augusta GC players turned up for Saturday’s Men’s stableford comp to challenge locals.
Club stalwart Ken MacKenzie (36) won on countback from Pierre Every (36), with Vic Solonec (35) third. Rod Bedford’s form continued, winning the gross with 26. The MRGC versus Augusta GC test was won by Margaret River. A return challenge is scheduled for October 27.
The annual Men’s Foursomes Championship of 2012 was played Sunday. Preston House and Rod Bedford topped the leader-board again with 168 strokes to be crowned 2012 Men’s Foursomes Champions.
Blake Glover and Rhys Dickenson pushed hard to finish second, a shot back. Best net score for the 36-hole event came from Gary Hinkley and Nathan Browner with 144.
