MORE than 200 people enjoyed their morning cup of tea with a good dose of joy on Thursday at the Cowaramup District Club.
Celebrating Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, the annual event hosted by the local Earl family was as popular as ever. This year’s theme was Tree of Life and guests did not disappoint with their attire. Winner of the best dressed competition was Sue Noakes for her fabulously fluoro green wig and feather boa.
Many prizes were won through an enthusiastic game of heads and tails, the chocolate wheel, and a raffle supported by many local businesses.
An auction was held, with Neil Earl speaking at a rate of about million words per hour yet still able to entertain the crowd. Prizes included wine, paintings and gift baskets.
Almost $30,000 was raised, with funds to go to the Cancer Council Western Australia.
Commenting on this amount, event organiser Deborah Earl said it was an awesome effort from a small community. The previous highest amount raised by the event was $28,500.
