MARGARET River's Ben Veitch cemented his position as state champion bodyboarder on the weekend with two titles at Scarborough Beach.
In the fight to claim his maiden open men's title at the third round of the Sunsmart WA Bodyboard Titles, the 25-year-old was challenged by two younger competitors.
But the pair, Lee Wilson of Margaret River and Noah Symmans of Albany, were outshone by Veitch's experience and consistency as he backed up his opening round win at Yallingup and second place finish in Mandurah.
"I've been competing in these comps for the past four or five years and have finished up bridesmaid a few times," Veitch said.
"It's always good to have a win and take home the state title after a day packed with sick waves."
Wilson settled for second, ahead of Symmans in third and Brendan Gabel of Rossmoyne in fourth.
Though Veitch was pipped by Gabel in the over-24 men's category, his success in the previous rounds added up and gave him the senior state title for 2014.
Despite the best efforts of Margaret River's Kyle Spence, Blake Gerrard of Mindare made the most of his local knowledge and took out the under-18 men's junior final.
A total of eight state bodyboard titles were awarded at the event as a team of 25 riders were confirmed to represent Western Australia at next month's Australian Bodyboard Titles at Coffs Harbour in NSW.
