MARGARET River Mermaids soccer team had a rather large reality check when they hosted the number two team in the league, Hay Park United in a Cup game on Sunday.
Visiting the Gloucester Park pitch, Hay Park were far too strong and quick for the Margaret River girls.
Captain Lindsey Sesin tried her heart out to contain the opposition and was ably helped by Charlie Ward, Liz Ostrick and Sarah Mattsson, who played on despite suffering an on going ankle injury, brave girl.
However, Hay Park rained shots on goal and never let Mermaids into the game.
Margaret River will need to do some serious homework and begin to play together as a unit to turn the situation around. Just quietly, the final score was 14-0.
Good to see some old players taking an interest in the team, hopefully we can get them back onto the pitch. With school holidays coming to an end, some of our Youth League girls will be able to bolster the Mermaids for Sunday’s League game against Hay Park United again at home, 11am kickoff, while the Men host Collie for a 1pm start.
