A WARRANT has been issued for the arrest of a Dudley Park man alleged to have driven more than 110km/h above the speed limit last month.
Dennis Edward Bingham was charged with reckless driving after his Holden Commodore sedan was clocked at 226km/h in a 90km/h zone on Mandjoogoordap Drive on June 22.
Mr Bingham was expected to appear in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Wednesday but failed to show.
Magistrate Vivien Edwards said the court had received an email from the alleged speedster saying he was “up north”.
Police are alleging the 40-year-old was driving in Lakelands about 7.50pm when a speed camera set up to monitor vehicles detected the speed which is understood to be one of the highest readings ever recorded in Western Australia.
Mr Bingham’s car was seized and impounded for 28 days and police officers launched an investigation into who was driving the vehicle at the time of the speed camera detection.
A woman who police said claimed to be driving the Commodore at the time of detection has also been charged with providing false information when asked to identify the driver.
Officers said the photo clearly showed a man behind the wheel.
The woman will appear in Mandurah Magistrates Court next week.
Police will now be required to locate and arrest Mr Bingham before his next court appearance.
