Graceful isn't the first word you'd use to describe the sisters Campbell. It's not out of place by any stretch - like most great swimmers, they almost seem to skim the water instead of forge through it - but descriptives like power, speed and strength suit their profile better.
Even the sisters wouldn't call themselves graceful, although they are trying to learn. Sprinters like Cate and Bronte Campbell can resemble threshing machines at times, especially in the 50m freestyle when they are head down, arms churning, looking as if they might swim through the wall instead of stopping after the slightest touch.
Both did just that on Friday night, winning silver and bronze in a sizzling 50m freestyle final won by England's Fran Halsall. Her time of 23.96s was good enough to win gold at last year's World Championsips. So was Cate's 24.00, while Bronte's 24.2 would have seen her in the medals, as well.
"This is really exciting... it's my first individual medal. I coudn't have asked for a better race than that," said Bronte Campbell, at 20 the younger of the Brisbane siblings. "There's no shame it that - it was such a quick race, much quicker than the world champs last year. It's really exciting for everyone."
Every elite athlete does whatever it takes to get the slightest edge on their rivals and the Campbells are no different. They have the brawn and are trying to add the finesse by working with dancers from the Queensland Ballet to help with their flexibility and strength.
Their pilates instructor is a former dancer and the duo are taking everything they can on board to improve their game in the water, in particular their starts, which are vital when races are decided by the time it takes to sneeze.
"I was really pleased with my start, we've been working on our starts, going to pilates. Our pilates teacher is a ballet dancer and she's teaching us how to jump like ballerinas," Bronte sad.
And Cate: "She's brilliant, we saw her before London as well."
They can swim like demons. Can they leap like they are in The Nutcracker?
"No, not yet," Cate says. "But we'll work on it. She makes us feel very ungraceful. We do it often with dancers from the Queensland Ballet. They put us to shame."
After anchoring the world-record breaking relay team, Cate Campbell still has her pet event to come. She is the world champion in the 100m freestyle and only falling off the blocks will deny her another gold in Glasgow.
