AFTER suffering several late game cancellations by their opponents lately, the Margaret River Gropers rugby team were eager to head to Bunbury for some play on the weekend.
With the prospect of a home grand final on their minds, they were determined to hold no punches.
From the outset, Gropers dominated the Bunbury Bulls, both around the rucks and out wide, and this soon took its toll on the Bulls. Try after try rained in from all parts of the paddock and it was apparent that a white wash was on the cards.
However, the Bulls were not without their own attacking moments. On several occasions they bombarded the try line, often within inches of scoring. But it was to no avail as Gropers showed how they have managed to concede only 26 points all season while scoring more than 250.
The final score was Gropers 65 – Bulls 0. A convincing victory for the undefeated champions over their possible title contenders.
Best back was the debutant Mitsu, forward of the day was Andrew Duke, and player of the day went to Roberto Colnaggo.
Gropers will host the Dungbeetles this Saturday at Nippers Oval, Margaret River. Game starts 1pm and is sure to be a firecracker of a match.
