TEACHER by day and artist by night, Skye Robertson is set to open her first exhibition in Margaret River on Friday.
Held in the Foyer Gallery at the Cultural Centre, the exhibit titled ‘Wish Bones and Cherry Stones’ will feature about 35 paintings based on the theme of good luck.
Ms Robertson has felt her life has been blessed since the move from Geraldton to Margaret River three years ago. Taking up a job at the Margaret River Independent School and making many friends, she said everything has “just been magic”.
While creating her work with this personal inspiration, Ms Robertson has also researched universal symbols of good luck including the cherry blossom tree and the ladybird.
“Did you know that when a ladybird lands on your wedding ring, the number of dots it has on it will be the number of children you have?” she said.
“It’s really interesting.”
Her work involves acrylic paint, lots of pen and ink, and her signature style of spray-painting through doilies.
Asked to pick a favourite piece from her upcoming exhibit, Ms Robertson said there were a few contenders and she was not finished yet, but one extremely detailed painting with blue wrens and vineyards stood out. This piece encompasses the beauty of the Margaret River region.
People can admire Ms Robertson’s art and read about symbols of good luck at the opening night on Friday, 5.30pm-7.30pm. The exhibition will run until August 31.
